THE CUTLER MAJESTIC THEATER (BOSTON, MA)

Music by Paola Prestini (Gilgamesh), Scott Wheeler (Naga), and Zhou Long (Madame White Snake) I Trilogy Libretto by Cerise Jacobs I Directed by Michael Counts

Ouroboros is a three-part exploration of life, death and rebirth, as symbolized by the ancient Greek icon of a serpent eating its own tail. The trilogy, produced by Beth Morrison Projects and The Friends of Madame White Snake, will be presented in Boston in the fall of 2016, both as individual operas and as seven hour full-day events. The production will bring together an acclaimed artistic team, including conductors Carolyn Kuan, Julian Wachner, and Lan Shui, and composers Zhou Long, Paola Prestini, and Scott Wheeler. Many extraordinary Boston music institutions such as The New England Conservatory of Music, The Boston Children's Chorus, Arts Emerson, The Boston Children's Museum and the Celebrity Series of Boston are participating in the project.

A multimedia opera that combines live musical performance and original film, this compelling new work was inspired by the journals of Isabelle Eberhardt (1877-1904), one of the most remarkable women of her era.

Sound From the Bench is a 35-minute cantata for chamber choir, two electric guitars and drums, with a libretto by Jena Osman. It was co-commissioned by Volti and The Crossing. A reaction to Osman's "Corporate Relations" -- an incredible collection of poems that follows the historical trajectory of corporate personhood in the United States -- the five movements of Sound from the Benchcombine language taken from landmark Supreme Court Cases with words from ventriloquism textbooks.
