BMP: NEXT GENERATION

BMP: Next Generation is a new initiative to discover the next generation of music-theatre and opera-theatre compositional voices. Aspiring composers from coast to coast have submitted their vocal works and BMP has curated an evening at Brooklyn's National Sawdust of works by ten up-and-coming composers. Contemporaneous provides its orchestral forces for the BMP: Next Generation concert. The complete three-year program will result in the commission, development, and World Premiere production of a new work by one selected composer.

Round One: Applicants will submit vocal works to BMP per guidelines below. Ten composers will be selected to have their work performed at National Sawdust on March 17, 2018 for a panel of luminary professionals.

Round Two: A panel of industry professionals will choose two composers from the round one selectees. Those two composers will be commissioned by BMP to write a 30-minute song-cycle, one-act opera, or other vocal work.  These works will be premiered in concert form at National Sawdust in the 2018-2019 season.

Round Three: BMP will select one of the two showcased composers to receive a full evening-length opera commission, to be developed, produced, premiered and toured by BMP.
