BMP: Next Generation is an initiative to discover the next generation of music-theatre and opera-theatre compositional voices. Aspiring composers from coast to coast will submit their vocal works and BMP will curate an evening of works by ten up-and-coming composers in New York City.

The complete three-year program will result in the commission, development, and World Premiere production of a new work by one selected composer.

Round One: Applicants will submit vocal works to BMP per guidelines below. Ten composers will be selected to have their work performed in New York City for a panel of luminary professionals.

Round Two: A panel of industry professionals will choose two composers from the round one selectees. Those two composers will be commissioned by BMP to write a 30-minute song-cycle, one-act opera, or other vocal work.  These works will be premiered in concert form in New York City in Spring 2021.

Round Three: BMP will select one of the two showcased composers to receive a full evening-length opera commission, to be developed, produced, premiered and toured by BMP.
