Music EMMA O’HALLORAN
Libretto MARK O’HALLORAN
Director TOM CREED
Scored for two principal singers and ten instrumentalists, Trade takes place in a guesthouse in Dublin’s north inner city. Based on the play on the same name by Mark O’Halloran, this one-act opera explores an intense encounter between a vulnerable and confused young male prostitute as he sits with a middle-aged client. The older man has blood on his shirt. A lot has happened since the two last met.
A piece about duty, morality, and desire, Trade is the full-length commission awarded to emerging composer Emma O’Holloran as winner of BMP’s Next Generation Competition.
