LIFE: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIMELIFE: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME

Frans Lanting's Life: A Journey Through Time is multimedia symphony performance that celebrates the splendor of life on Earth. An extravaganza for the senses, THE LIFE SYMPHONY features the imagery of acclaimed National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting, dynamically choreographed to the elegant music of composer Philip Glass. Each of Lanting’s photographs was envisioned to provide a window in time, enabling viewers to imagine what planet Earth looked like in different eras, as new forms of life arose.

The resulting performance is a spectacular and emotionally charged journey through time from the Big Bang to the present in one hour of continuous music and imagery. Life premiered in California at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music directed by Marin Alsop, with subsequent performances also conducted by Carolyn Kuan. It has been performed more than two dozen times to enthusiastic audiences in major concert halls such as New York's Lincoln Center and the Barbican in London, and for special occasions, including the World Science Festival in New York; CERN's inauguration ceremony for the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland; and the World Wildlife Fund’s 50th Anniversary gala at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, attended by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands.
