Two anthologies of 21st-century arias marking two decades of BMP’s unparalleled contributions to American opera are now fully available to the public

At the heart of the BMP: SONGBOOK Collection is the BMP: SONGBOOK Anthology, a two-volume sheet-music collection featuring piano/vocal arrangements of more than 60 arias from 35 of the 60+ operas BMP commissioned and produced in its first 20 years, published by Just A Theory. The collection also includes the 500-page commemorative book, An Illustrated Retrospective: The First Twenty Years of Beth Morrison Projects, designed by Morcos Key, which tells BMP’s 20-year story through photographs, archival materials, interviews, and more; and the BMP: SONGBOOK Volume I & Volume II recordings, available on CD, digitally, and in a limited vinyl run.

Released by Bright Shiny Things and produced by GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Blanton Alspaugh, the albums feature more than two dozen newly recorded, archival, and previously released arias selected from the Anthology.

The BMP: Songbook Anthology is a two-volume collection of more than 60 arias drawn from 35 operas commissioned and produced by Beth Morrison Projects in its first 20 years, 2006-2026. Volume I is repertoire for soprano, mezzo-soprano, and countertenor; Volume II is material for tenor and baritone. Together, the two volumes total more than 650 pages of music and contextual information. Each aria is presented in an arrangement for voice and piano, along with notes about the original production in which the aria appeared. Many pieces are being offered publicly in this format for the first time, making this collection of music-theatre works a must-have for singers, pianists, voice teachers, music educators, conductors, programmers, and other opera professionals who are looking for 21st-century opera repertoire.

BMP: Songbook Volume I highlights arias by leading female composers from operas commissioned and produced by BMP, including Missy Mazzoli’s shimmering soundscapes, Kamala Sankaram’s stirring textures, and Paola Prestini’s immersive melodic landscapes. The album features restored/remastered archival recordings of original cast performances as well as newly recorded performances and now available in this format for the first time. Available in CD and digital format from Bright Shiny Things. (Released January 2026)

BMP: Songbook Volume II charts BMP’s history and legacy, representing a broad cross-section of composers and artists who have shaped BMP’s first two decades, with arias ranging from David T. Little’s rock-opera fusion to Nico Muhly’s sensitive minimalism to Du Yun’s explosive energy and more capturing the range of voices that define BMP’s first 20 years. The album incorporates archival, previously released, and restored material, allowing recordings from earlier and more recent BMP productions and collaborations to live together in one collection.

An Illustrated Retrospective: The First Twenty Years of Beth Morrison Projects is a stunning large-format, 500-page coffee table book that documents every production created by Beth Morrison Projects or featured in the PROTOTYPE Festival between 2006 and 2026 through photography, archival materials, interviews, and essays. This volume also provides an invaluable historical account of a period of contemporary opera, chronicling the creative collaborations that shaped the company and the genre, including the community of composers, librettists, performers, directors, designers, producers, and presenters involved in BMP’s development. An Illustrated Retrospective complements the audio recording and sheet music by preserving the history, imagery, people, productions, and institutional story surrounding the music.

Designed by Morcos Key, the book brings together visual and written documentation of the artists, productions, and collaborations that have shaped BMP’s first two decades.
