SUNKEN CATHEDRAL

TED fellow, Korean-American composer, and sonic surrealist Bora Yoon, fuses voice, electronics, and instruments from various cultures and centuries with evocative video design to create Sunken Cathedral, a multimedia performance tracing a musical and archetypal journey through the subconscious. Set in a house where things are not what they seem, and whose architecture illuminates the various chambers of the mind, body, and spirit, each chapter of this contemporary multimedia work excavates blood memory, cultural identity, and the intersections where our greatest diamonds and demons are held. Featuring Korean traditional dance and drumming, Sunken Cathedral traces death, life, rebirth, and the cyclical and recombinant nature of our internal and external universe.

SUPPORT: Commissioned and developed through the HERE Artist ResidencyProgram (HARP). Produced by HERE in association with Beth Morrison Projects. Sunken Cathedral has received funding from Sorel Organization forWomen Composers, and the Asian American Arts Alliance. Additional support provided by The Hermitage Artist Center, Ringling Museum of Art, Singapore Arts Festival, Park Avenue Armory, and generous individual donors.
